Digital art by Michelle Oaks

Inspired by nature and the fibonacci sequence Michelle creates these striking images first by taking photos and sketching them out in her sketchpad before progressing into digital format to work on them further. Butterflies are a recurring theme and Michelle often refers to them as “the butterfly collection” due to them all being slightly different. When seeing different creatures or birds, she looks up the spiritual meaning, which is then incorporated into the artwork.
“Creating these images is like a therapy for me, it allows me to focus on my creativity, keeps me grounded and is a form of meditation. I love nature too, so it gets me out and about in nature as I search for inspiration.”

Michelle studied traditional animation at MMU but after working at a computer game company she moved her work into a digital format. She really likes the idea of creating work that looks like photography and in a sense her work is a combination of the two.
