[Winner] Lena Garvey • “Space” • This piece was created to contemplate space, and how the meaning of it has changed following the collective experience of the covid-19 pandemic. Is space a survival tactic, programmed behaviour, safety measure or rule? In an age where the meaning and mode of human connection is irrevocably changed, social interactions are now occuring against the backdrop of the new yet unspoken conception of space and closeness. But the question remains, Is space, infact a void?

Anna France-Williams • “Four Spaces” • it describes four spaces that have nurtured me during the pandemic: being able to go on retreat, being home has meant baking more cakes which has nurtured my creativity, being part of a new faith community in Hulme and making time for head space each day by journalling. My rainbow journals are a particular source of joy for me.

Eddy Hughes • This tree once required a lot more of Space .. It is still here in the same Space it started as a sapling … It is a space to stop and look .. have a conversation about .. meet someone here as a landmark …It is here in a Place ..occupying a Space .
Helen Cassidy • “We are One”
Lena Garvey • “Brexit” • This collage is made up of newspaper snippets taken from the papers published around the time of Britains departure from the european Union (31/01/2020). Its Chaotic and loud nature represents the artists feelings about Brexit and the narratives surrounding it. The collage debates space in the sense of Britian and who it belongs to, whilst its visual language provides little space to think, much like the conversation (or propaganda?) around Brexit
