So Ping Law – Photographs taken on location in Greenland 2018-2023

“Every Time I go to Greenland, I see different things, the scenery is so unique you never get bored.”

More than 30 photos are exhibited here, which have been taken between 2018 and 2023. The shooting locations are mainly located in Kangerlussuaq, Ilulissat, Disko Island and nearby fishing villages in western Greenland. These photos include the unique scenery of Greenland in different seasons, weather, or even at a different time on the same day.

Climate change has significant effects on Greenland, including environmental, social and economic impacts. Rising temperature caused by global warming led to the ice sheet melting and glacial retreat. It gives to the rise of global sea level, exposes more land that absorbs heat on Greenland which causes climate change locally. The weather pattern on Greenland is shifting with more frequent storms and rainfall instead of snowfall which affects plants and animal species such as seals, polar bears and fish. Climate change also has great impacts on the traditional way of life of those indigenous Inuit populations which are closely tied to the environment. Changes of sea ice and wildlife patterns affect their hunting practice which pose a threat to their food security and also their cultural heritage.
