I love photography & poetry – hence my name Camera Poetry!

We are very pleased to present on display in the window a selection of drawings, collage, prints and cards by Mixed media Artist Penelope Nyau. She shares a bit more about her practice, interests and inspiration below.

I discovered my interest in photography when I got my first digital camera in 2008.

Since then I have been developing my own style. I love getting up close & taking close-ups of insects (all types!) & all the varieties of flowers. I also love capturing my urban environment –so I often photograph signs & street art/Str’art/graffiti. I’ve been reading & writing poetry ever since I can remember!

As for my art … I am a self taught mixed media artist. I began attending art classes in 2018 for the benefits to my mental health after recovering from cancer.

I began creating these particular artworks due to the virus & the lock-down of 2020, initially to keep myself occupied in between online classes! My inspiration stems from nature & fascination with faces.

Inspired by many artists, Picasso is my main obsession; I am also a big fan of Matisse. Plus many contemporary artists such as Brianna McCarthy.
