Barbara Dussie

Handbuilt Ceramics showcases a collection of bold, tactile ceramic forms by Old Trafford artist Barbara Dussie. Inspired by the human body, waves, natural shapes, and repeated patterns found in the world around us, Barbara’s work explores movement, form, texture, and the joy of making.

Using crank clay and traditional hand-building techniques, Barbara creates large sculptural pieces that celebrate the physicality of clay and the connection between maker and material. Her forms often echo body parts, organic structures, and flowing natural rhythms, inviting viewers to appreciate their curves, textures, and presence.

A professional artist with a degree in Ceramics from Manchester School of Art, Barbara describes being in the studio as a place where she feels most content and free. For her, working with clay is a full-body experience; a process of expression, intuition, and connection that allows ideas to emerge through making.

Born and bred in Old Trafford, Barbara’s practice is deeply rooted in her love of creativity and the belief that everyone has the ability to create. Through this exhibition she hopes visitors experience a sense of joy, curiosity, and inspiration. The works are intended to be pleasant to look at, uplifting in their presence, and a reminder that creativity comes from within all of us.

Handbuilt Ceramics celebrates the pleasure of shape, form, and making, encouraging audiences to slow down, look closely, and perhaps leave feeling inspired to create something of their own.
