The Local Colour Exhibition in The Window at OT Creative Space invites you to view many of the stunning pieces created by the participants over the course of the recent Local Colour, age-friendly project in Old Trafford.
Pinks, purples, teals, blues and yellows of varying hues are among the colours given up by locally available leaves, flowers, bark and roots onto cotton, linen, silk and wool textiles.
Local Colour was launched back in February with a well attended Cake & Craft Taster and Information Event. The wonderful participants have kick started a new Micro Flax and Dye Garden at St John’s Centre. They have also tried and tested a range of hyperlocal plants from surrounding streets and green spaces for their natural dyeing properties. Whilst acquiring new skills themselves the group has contributed to a growing knowledge commons, a repository of methods andresources for harnessing local colour.
The garden is a wonderful community resource. We are looking for volunteers to continue nurturing this space beyond the Local Colour in Old Trafford project which is now drawing to a close.
This innovative project was conceived and delivered by Common Cloth CIC, St. John’s Centre and OT Creative Space. It was made possible with funding from Trafford Community Collective and a wonderful team of participants, facilitators and volunteers.
Common Cloth CIC is a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation. Seed by seed, thread by thread, hue by hue we want to reconnect local people and communities to land, cloth and colour, as well as to each other.
